JANUARY - Midge fishing can good on nice days and nymphs always work. The cold water slows down the fish and they seem to prefer either large nymphs or tiny dry midges. The lake in Boiling Springs was drained resulting in a lot of mud and carp in the catch and release area.
flies - Pheasant Tail nymph, BWO, midges down to size 28, Zebra Midge, egg flies.

The trout were hard to find so I targeted carp instead. This 25 incher was in the catch and release area. This was the highlight of the month.
FEBURARY- The main creeks are closed after February 20 but special regulation areas are open.
Nymph fishing is still good especially black and little black stoneflies can be found.
flies - little black stonefly(16), hairs ear, small black nymphs (16) along with the January flies. The fish are still not very active.

The fishing was slow on this particular day but this 21 inch brown made it a good day. There are always big fish in the creek somewhere, this one was in the catch and release area.
MARCH - The main creek is still closed but the catch and release area near Boiling Springs is still open. The fishing has been worse than previous years and catch rates have dropped quite a bit. This year stream structures were added to the catch and release section resulting in a lot of digging in the stream, sediment and loss of insect life. Many of the overhanging shade trees and bushes along the bank the fish loved were removed. The lake in Boiling Springs was also drained with a huge amount of mud flowing down past Allenberry resulting in more sediment. The result is the fish for the most part moved out from their previous favorite areas both upstream and downstream. The fish seem to stay in 3 or 4 holes rather than the entire 1 mile long stretch as they did in the past.
The last two weeks resulted in some decent Grannom hatches in the morning and a Hendrickson or two in the afternoon. A few black Stoneflies come out in the evening. The fish are more active but heavily pressured. The Grannom hatch has been good and wet flies have been effective.
flies - Grannom dry (14. 16), Grannom pupa, BH hare's ear, Peacock and partridge wet fly, Black Stonefly
