THE YELLOW BREECHES CREEK

The Yellow Breeches Creek is a limestone creek located in south central Pennsylvania near the town of Boiling Springs. It is one of the top 10 fly fishing destinations in PA and probably higher than number 10. The stream is about 50 miles long with over 20 of those miles open to the public. There is a wild brown trout population in the creek but it is also heavily stocked by the PA Fish and Boat Commission and a local cooperative nursery called the Yellow Breeches Anglers and Conservation, Inc (YBAC). YBAC adds 36,000 trout and stocks throughout the year, including the Fall and Winter. There is a one mile long catch and release stretch from Boiling Springs down to the resort of Allenberry.

Historically the Yellow Breeches was once a nucleus of the fly fishing community. Many famous fly anglers lived in the area such as Charlie Fox, Charles Meck, Ed Shank, Vince Marinaro and others. Many famous anglers and celebrities fished the stream in the past. Those days may be gone but the fishing in the Yellow Breeches is not only still good but probably better than it ever was. Trout can be caught on any day of the year in the Yellow Breeches Creek.

There are two excellent fly shops in the area, Precision Fly and Tackle in Mount Holly and TCO in Boiling Springs. There are other nearby creeks within driving distance with good fishing also. The Letort, Big Spring, and Mountain Creek are less than an hour away, Yellow Creek, Spring Creek and Penns Creek are day trips. For those who are from out of town, and planning to visit the area we also have local attractions such as the Gettysburg Battlefield, Pine Grove Furnace State Park, Pinchot State Park, Lancaster (and the Amish), Hershey Park, the Appalachian Trail and others. This is a wonderful area to visit.
